With its distinctive divided front window and rounded shapes, it quickly gained popularity among users.

The second generation of motorhomes, the Volkswagen T2, further strengthened the brand's reputation. The T2 now had a single front window, a more powerful engine and a more spacious interior. The models of the late 1960s and 1970s were immensely successful in Europe and North America.

In parallel with the development of Volkswagen motorhomes, light caravans, specially adapted to be towed by the Transporter models, have also appeared.
